Background & Philosophy

Duncan is a KBTEducation Level 3 Strength & Conditioning Coach and a British Weightlifting Level 2 Club Coach.

He has recently joined the KBTEducation team as a Coach Educator.

My training philosophy is to provide professional strength & conditioning to amateur athletes. I try to achieve this in my training programmes by combining heavy, well-executed compound movements with high-intensity, functional conditioning.

 

Having worked in the leisure industry since I had my first job I have come to realise I not only enjoy being around active people, but also helping people achieve the athletic goals that they have set themselves. My sporting background was in rugby union which I played at a National level and so now I mainly specialise in training athletes for power based sports. You get what you work for in life and I believe self-confidence and mental toughness are hugely undervalued assets in sport.

 

A good training session can give you so much more than just better strength and fitness. Things you learn about yourself and can achieve while training will apply to other aspects of life, not just in a physical sense. You can develop an inner strength, pushing your body way beyond the limits of what you thought it were capable of doing. I keep this in mind when writing training programmes by trying to prescribe the perfect balance between modern day sports science and good old fashion hard work!
